CT Outlawing “High-Capacity” Magazines, Allows Grandfathering….. Sort Of

http://www.courant.com/news/politics/hc-gun-deal-newtown-0413-20130401,0,7341094.story

CT has officially lost its collective mind. Magazines aren’t serialized…..

BONUS: best quote ever to be published:

“Because we learned, the way that no other parents should learn, that the most dangerous, dangerous part of an assault weapon is the magazine.”

Of course, the magazine is the most dangerous part of ANY firearm. Not the firearm itself, and certainly not the ammunition, but the detachable box with a single spring in it. Logic’d.

if a regular person illegally sells a gun to a felon, then that regular person is not a regular person. he is a criminal.

You’re 100% correct, what’s your point? The hypothetical sale in my post has made a felon out of someone that wasn’t one before.

I take “Shall Not Be Infringed” to mean “Unless you’re in jail, go for it” so I’d be tossed in Federal prison for doing something I have a preeminent right to do, yet has been criminalized? Background checks at firearm POS’ have been law since 02/1994. So up until about 18 years ago, they weren’t required. The 2nd amendment has been around since 12/1791. I say legal presumption in this country *should* suggest that anything that even SEEMS like an infringement should be ruled as such.

But whatever terms you use to describe the two people in my hypothetical story, it doesn’t matter. Point is firearms are physical objects and can be physically transferred to anybody at any point in time, “universal background checks” be damned

Coworkers

“’Shall Not Be Infringed’ doesn’t mean what you THINK it means”
“…. Alright, what does it mean?”
“It means you’re not supposed to have an ASSAULT WEAPON!”

Logic’d

“Universal” Background Checks

Joey Biden says we’re “on the verge” of universal background checks. “It will, emphasize will, it will save lives”

Someone explain this to me. I honestly don’t understand it.

Let’s say Congress passes a law saying every firearm transaction must subject the purchaser to a background check. Stringent penalties for not doing so, etc. Let’s also say you’re a felon planning a crime, and I have a handgun I’m willing to sell you for $500.

Pre-universal background check: *You hand me the money* *I hand you the firearm*

Post-universal background check: *You hand me the money* *I hand you the firearm*

Alright fine, if I get caught I go to federal prison. But a crime has probably been committed by that time. WHERE IS THE LIFE-SAVING?? What is this doing besides making criminals out of more regular people??

Friendly Reminder

That of the 240,000+ full-auto firearms owned by law-abiding citizens, two of them have been used in homicides since 1934. Two. 50% of those homicides were committed by a police officer. That’s 0.000008% of machine guns being used to kill people.

Tell me again how machine guns still need to be (mostly) banned?
